Example
We will use our Zillow data from before
38 | 60 | 60 | 70 | 90 | 101 | 250 |
Recall that we had:
Median=70
IQR=41
and we calculuate the mean
Mean=\(\overline{x}=\frac{\sum x}{7}=95.6\)
In the previous example we did see that we had an outlier of 250, so let's look at what happens when we ignore that data value
38 | 60 | 60 | 70 | 90 | 101 |
Median=65
IQR=30
Mean=\(\overline{x}=\frac{\sum x}{6}=59.85\)
So we see that our mean is the most effected by ignoring the outlier!
